Two more weeks before the end of the School year…what’s your Summer plan? Certainly some vacation time for most of you and I hope you will find some time to enjoy more chess. 1. Regular Registration Deadline Is Tonight, June 19 For The 2023 Canadian Junior Chess Championship On July 6-9, 2023

Hurry if you’ve not already registered to join us for this event. We only have 15 more spots left and regular fee registration expires tonight at midnight, June 19! The Canadian Junior Chess Championship is a qualifier for the 2023 FIDE World Junior Chess Championship taking place in Mexico City from September 20 to October 2, 2023. The 2023 Canadian Junior Chess Championship is sanctioned by CFC and the winners of the OPEN Section (one boy and one girl) of this event will become the official Canadian representatives for the World Junior Chess Championship. As an official representative, the cost of hotel and meals will be covered by FIDE and CFC will cover your registration fee. As organizers of this event, we will provide a bursary of $1,200 per player to cover your flights.

This event will be played in 4 sections - OPEN, U1800, U1500 & U1000. This event will be played over 4 days at the Excelsior Chess Club in Toronto from Thursday, July 6 to Sunday, July 9. This tournament is a U20 event, i.e. players under the age of 20. To learn more and to register, click here.

2. Registration Is Now Full For The 2023 Oakville Summer Chess & Fun Camp

We’ve now closed registration for the 2023 Summer Chess & Fun Camp. However, you can join the waiting list in case we’re able to add more capacity or if we get cancellations. The Oakville Summer Camp will take place from July 3 to July 7, 2023. Our Summer camp is fun with chess, soccer, basketball, money management for kids, and other fun activities. 3. GM Gukesh Wins The 2023 Junior Speed Chess Championship

If you followed this event you would agree that it was exciting and fun. In a final loaded with stunning tactical play and amazing counterstrikes, GM Gukesh D. defeated GM Raunak Sadhwani by a seven-point margin to become the 2023 Junior Speed Chess Champion. GM Gukesh is currently ranked number 13 in the world and with this win he earned $21,582 total for his convincing performance, winning every single match against his fellow best juniors in the world by at least a six-point lead. 5. Volunteer with Elevate My Chess and/or Oakville Chess Club

We are seeking volunteers to assist with our chess events, chess camps, and chess clubs. Volunteers assist with a number of tasks - setting up for chess events; helping with managing our chess clubs; instructing new players; and assisting with some administrative tasks like responding to emails, registering for events, etc. What are the benefits of volunteering?

• Play for FREE at our tournaments
• Gain relevant work experience that you can put on your resume
• Gain volunteer experience for those in High School
• Opportunity to transition to a paid part-time or full-time position with Elevate My Chess
